Get Winter Ready With These Tips
Use These Guidelines To Protect Against Winter Weather Even in comparatively balmy Southern California, we see inclement weather in the winter months. Take December’s deluge of rain for example- not only did it drive us indoors but it lead to serious traffic accidents and even mudslides. Are you prepared to face the changing seasons? Use these tips to get yourself, your home, and your loved ones ready for the winter. 1. For The House: Winter is a great time to check that all of your protections in place are functioning properly. Check your insulation and pipes, inspect your home’s heating and cooling systems, and make sure smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly. If you have a fireplace, have your chimney cleaned and inspected before you light the season’s first fires. 2. For The Children: Make sure your young ones know how to dress for the changing weather. Teach them how to properly layer clothing, and make sure they have a water and wind resistant outer layer to keep them warm on the chillier days ahead. 3. For The Pets: If your pets will be outdoors, make sure they have areas to find refuge from a sudden rainstorm. Create a shelter that will be warm and safe from the wind and rain. 4. For Everyone: Hydrate! The winter months bring extra dryness, but cold weather can make a glass of water sound unappealing. Turn to hot tea if you need a warmer option to up your fluid intake, but make sure everyone is staying hydrated this winter to fend off sickness and boost energy.
