Unacceptable Electrical Panels – Commercial Properties

When it comes to commercial properties, ensuring the safety and compliance of electrical systems is critical. Certain electrical panels are considered unsafe and are not accepted for use in commercial properties due to potential hazards. Below is a list of disqualified panel brands:

  • Blakeman Bros
  • Challenger
  • Federal Pacific
  • Stab-Lok
  • Zinsco
  • GTE Sylvania
  • Siemens Murray

Wiring and Component Restrictions

To ensure the safety of your electrical system, we strongly recommend the following restrictions:

  • No aluminum wiring: Aluminum wiring is more prone to overheating and other safety concerns.
  • No fuse-based panels: Fuse-based panels are not ideal for modern electrical needs and may not meet current safety standards.

Square D Panel Recall Notice

Schneider Electric has issued a recall for approximately 1.4 million Square D QO Plug-On Neutral Load Centers. This recall is due to a fire hazard caused by a loose neutral screw connection that may lead to overheating. These panels are commonly used in both residential and commercial properties.

Affected Manufacturing Dates:

  • February 2020 – January 2022

Recall Notices Issued:

  • December 2019
  • March 2022

It is crucial to address this recall promptly to avoid any potential fire risks.

Identifying Affected Panels

To determine if your Square D panel is affected by this recall, follow these steps:

  1. Check the panel: Look for the Square D logo on the panel door.
  2. Verify the type: Ensure that it is a QO Load Center. (Note: The Homeline series is not affected by this recall).
  3. Find the manufacturing date code:
    • For outdoor panels, the date code is located inside the panel cover.
    • For indoor panels, the date code is found on the interior of the panel.
  4. Check the date code: If the code falls between 194871 and 221343, the panel may be affected.
  5. Consult Schneider Electric’s catalog number list: Verify if your panel’s part number is part of the recall.

What to Do If You Have an Affected Panel

If you discover that your panel is part of the recall, it is essential to take the following steps:

  • Contact Schneider Electric: Arrange for a free inspection by a licensed electrician.

In the meantime, follow these safety measures:

  • Ensure smoke detectors are installed and functional in your premises.
  • Do not resell or reinstall the recalled panels, as it is illegal to sell recalled electrical equipment.
