Ditch Distractions Behind The Wheel
Change Your Habits During Distracted Driving Awareness Month April marks Distracted Driving Awareness Month, making it a great time for all of us to take a moment and evaluate our driving habits. Have you grown careless behind the wheel? Even if you are not someone who texts while driving, taking your eyes off the road while you reach for a CD counts as distracted driving, too. Because distracted driving lessens both cognitive and visual function, it is extremely dangerous. When you try to multitask in the car, your brain has to shift focus to that other activity and, consequently, away from the road. Here are some sobering statistics about distracted driving. • Texting and driving increases your likelihood of getting into an accident by 23 times. When you send a text, your eyes are off the road for the length of a football field. Would you drive that distance blindfolded? Put your phone on silent and put it in your glove box to ditch your habit of texting while driving. • Whether you are reaching for a CD, a dropped item, or the bag behind you, that activity increases the possibility of an accident by 9 times. Pull over to grab that item instead of putting yourself and others in danger. • If you need to depend on a GPS to get to your destination, make sure you use one that is voice activated. Reading a map or smartphone for directions increases your chances of an accident by 3 times. When you practice safe driving, your driving record will show it. If you have a history of safe driving, we believe you should be rewarded for it. To get safe driving discounts on your auto insurance coverage, contact Fuller Insurance.
